This mood board will Help me look at designs for peoples heads and gives me a more robotic, and steampunk style to look at, trying to implement these into my work would make it look quite modern, and very aesthetic. Having some symbol or having some sort of method of creating clear imagery with my designs would be good to look at, such as a Common notifier of a robot or cyborg is the eye, Most of the time at least One of the eyes has been modified or altered to look different to the other eye.

virtual-half-robot-face-mask.jpg

This photo is a great example of what I want to achieve style wise, Its a very good photo of a person’s face, and it has been edited over a picture of a robot, This is really good for creating depth and making the image look like the skin of the face is actually on top of the robotics, giving a really realistic and good synthetic look to the piece, Adding some shading and some lighting to complete the look and add more realism.

Some of these photos highlight perfectly what I am aiming to create with the face section of my work, I want to create a Human style face with some robotic style features, whilst not taking away the human aspect of the images. Possibly editing the eyes, or editing the skin to leave more mechanical features, and possibly leaving a clear outline from the face to the rest of the head to emphasize the mask aspect. I quite like having some of the robotic features on show, but only behind the mask, I think having that would help to increase the look of the machinery and to help focus the person on the fact its a robot and not a person. When it comes to the skin colour I might do a mix of the white glossy look, and a normal skin tone, I want to create a lighter and more prosthetic skin colour, possibly adding some shine to it and some artificial glow or light refraction, But Also keeping the tone showing its a skin cover or skin over, possibly with some markings on to help put more stress on the fact its prosthetic and human made.

Here I am looking at logos for robotics companies, I really like the human aspect to the businesses, Makes me think more of a unity and how people and robots can work together rather than an us and them situation, I think for a company that’s trying to sell and promote the use of robots and androids, having a logo that has a human aspect to it would be great, by symbolism of a head or a hand or something of that sort. I also think that having something that’s conically recognizable like a cog or something to symbolize the robot side and the mechanical side would be ideal. If there is a way to link the two together around my idea that would be great for both looking like an actual logo, and for being a great means of symbolism.

These images look at the idea of having a synthetic arm or a robotic hand, I love the style of making it look humanoid but at the same time making it look very futuristic, curves and monochromatic colours. Although I also like the idea of making it look very blocky and heavy, making it look more almost steampunk or less sleek, jagged edges and hard corners etc. Making it look stronger and like a more dangerous mechanical piece.

This moodboard explores eyes, Looking at the detailing, and where the main focus of edits usually are, When looking at an eye whether its a drawing or a photo, usually the first thing people look at is the pupil or the Iris, which is what is edited the most, usually by exaggerating the colour, and by adding some mechanical or robotic aspects, such as Straight lines, Or neon white colours, Glowing effects, and then some more patterns or bright textures. having a picture of an edited Eye would help to give emotion to my piece. Giving it a soul and giving it some human aspects, with noticeable details to say otherwise.

This moodboard explores the ideas of android looking faces, where its noticeably robotic and inhuman, but is designed to look similar to a person’s face. I want to make it obvious too by either having some sort of defining line or break from the face where the mask stops and the rest of the head carries on. I quite like the idea of having it quite pale, whether I have it complete white, Like typical android masks, or whether I just light pigmented skin tone, that’s been lightened and slightly de-saturated.

These Images represent the style I want to work with the most, The realistic look with exaggerated features such as brighter eyes, and the monochromatic colour scale mostly. I want to try and keep it looking organic, but i want it to be obvious that its not human, Breaking up the face and dividing the looks with Lines seems to be a great idea and common concept through out the images, With colours being very bleached out and faded.
